The perfect shirt…
I typically buy a little bit less material than a pattern calls for….(people who make patterns are in cahoots with the fabric people and are trying to get me to spend more money than I need to) Usually if I buy the amount that the pattern calls for I end up with about 1/4 to 1/2 a yard of scrap. Not like little bits of scrap, but a big ol’ piece left over. I think the flaw in their material count is directly related to the two dimensional picture of how to lay out the pattern…..I happen to love puzzles, so I can be very creative in my piece cutting.
So, I wanted to make Paul and Declan the same shirt out of the same matterial, so I bought six yards of material…..That’s a yard for each side of them and 1/2 yard for each arm…..that should be enough to cover two guys right? Apparently not, I had to go back to get an extra yard the following day to cut out the yolks (that’s right, there are eggs in the shirts!) As I think about it now, I started cutting Declan’s shirt first, and if I had cut Paul’s first, I could have made Declan’s a few inches shorter and only been short maybe 1/2 a yard…..
Paul’s Shirt is finished……Ok, it’s not perfect…..I had a huge accident, but if you can’t see it, then it doesn’t matter…..Anyway, it turned out very nice if I do say so myself…..
