The kitchen is finished!
We have been upgrading our kitchen due to a little fire Brittney started a few months ago.
our old counters were formica that covered the counter then ran all the way up the wall to be the backsplash as well.
We didn’t want to pay to have the old counters removed, but were a little worried that the formica on the walls would be hard to remove. Well apparently 15 year old glue is not that sticky! It all came off pretty easily with a scraper and Paul took the old counters off. That was funny because one of our cats usually gets fed on our island and the morning after he removed the counter, she tried to jump up there and fell into the drawers (poor kitty).
The nice guys from Home Depot came and installed the new counters. They look like granite, but are laminate. Then I started the tiling. Of course, being me, I couldn’t just put the tiles up as little squares, I had to do diamonds, so my one day of tiling became four days, but I finally finished it with only one injury. I am too cheap to rent the wet tile saw (plus me, wet tile and a saw seemed like a bad idea!) so I used our tile score and then broke the tiles with a hammer. I managed not to damage too many beyond use and the ones that broke wrong I was able to use as fillers for odd sizes.
I am so glad it is done and actually looks pretty good!

I don’t know how to link a post, but the post “lots of pretty buttons” shows some of the damage when Brittney started a grease fire on the cooktop. She pulled the pan off the cook top and poured water in it from the faucet, when she turned back around, there were flames on the cooktop, so she set the pan down on the counter to try to put out the flames. She got the flames out, but the pan she sat on the counter burned a hole in the laminate top. You should come with Lloyd in May to see it in person!

It looks great, I love the new counters, you’d swear it was granite! Wish I lived closer, Sea could have loaned you a wet saw. Someday we will be in the same state : ) You did a fabulous job! Poor Brit, she’ll never live down starting that fire.
So when are you going to be in MO. I’m trying to plan, it’d be nice to be there at the same time besides the reunion. (I do still highly reccommend the twin cities as a fun vacation spot too).

Sadly I will be in Fargo June 11 watching some softball. I haven’t figured it all out yet. We have Twins tickets 4th of July I think. Summer is just too short!
