Grandpa Declan
Declan got himself dressed today, so when I came downstairs he was wearing a pair of burgundy pants with a bright red sweater.Â
This reminded me of when my mom was in the hospital having Aaron. She was there over the weekend, and on Sunday morning my dad came out of his bedroom and asked if he could wear what he had on. If you know my dad you know his favorite color is red, well he had on a bright red dress shirt and a pair of burgundy pants. It was then that I realized my dad is color blind!
Paul asked Declan if he knew they were two different colors and told him we would start calling him Grandpa. To which Declan promptly responded,”No, I’m not. If I were Grandpa, I’d have straps!”Â

Those are funny moments when you/someone realize that you/someone is color blind. Leo is also color blind, and I can recall the precise moment when we realized it. And the article of clothing was a jacket he believed was brown that was actually forest green.
So glad you’re posting more, my friend!!

I have a bil who is color blind. We’ve always known it – I’m not sure when he found out about it but it was before the Buesing family was part of his life… Anyhoo, he’s full time National Guard and one year for his birthday my sister made him a cake to take to work, complete with camo frosting. She didn’t think to tell him what she had done. He was really confused when everyone was coming up to him telling him how much they liked the cake. I’m not sure what color he thought it was, but he had no idea that it was 3 colors!
We all quietly think that he went full time with the NG so he wouldn’t have to worry about matching clothes for a regular job.

So it could have been a toss up between the NG and UPS?

Maybe he just has grandpaitis. He probably won’t be very color blind. Besides he is only 6 and at that age who cares. He probably figured if he got dressed he was doing well.
Maybe I should get him a pair of bright red suspenders just for fun.

Do they just give you the straps when you reach a certain age, or do you have to ask for them?

Hmmm, I don’t know if he ever considered a career with UPS. Maybe that’s what he can do after he retires from the NG.

Lloyd, Are you concerned you are about to reach that age and no one has contacted you?
