Paul’s trip to Oregon
Paul went to Oregon the last week of August to forge his own sword. It was quite an experience and seems to have made him appreciate the great outdoors!
They started with raw cable steel and heated it, then pounded, then heated, then pounded until they had the correct length.
Here’s Paul hammering on his piece of steel. Behind him is the forge that they use to heat the metal. Paul said it took quite a few passes to get to the point of flattening out the steel to look like a sword.
Here he is filing off some of the rough patches.
They put clay on the blade to harden and insulate the blade so it can be sharpened.
And here are the finished products. He had a great time…it was hard just to get him on the phone, he was having such a good time….
He did however make time to drive over to the coast to check out the ocean one night.

You are soooo awesome to find this for him & send him there! I’ve since learned that there are piles of really specific training opportunities like this one, just for people with unique interests. VERY COOL!
I bet it’s great to have him back, though…!
