Hiking

One of the things we wanted to try while the kids were at Grandma’s was hiking.  We tried a few months ago, but it was not that successful.  We all came home sore with blisters and things.

This time we decided we should be better equiped.  So Paul and I decided to get new hiking boots.  We were not sure how dedicated we are to this yet, so we decided to go with the more economical boots.  I tried on a couple different pair of boots, but alas, none were as comfortable as I thought they would need to be.

So, I went over to see what Paul had found.  And of course he found some nice boots….so nice I got a pair as well.

which ones are mine?

Now the problem is trying to tell which ones are mine and which ones are his.

I’m gonna say that the ones on picture left are yours. Maybe its just the angle, but they appear smaller and more narrow… like a girls shoe.

Great looking shoes! The mesh on the top (and sides?) is really going to help keep your feet cool.

Plan to wear them around the house quite a bit to start breaking them in. Also, when you feel a hot spot starting, stick some moleskin on it. You really want to prevent blisters, because once they happen, your stuck. And if you’re backpacking or in some situation where you’re away for a while, they can get infected.

Another tip I’ve heard but never implemented is to wear a liner sock under your normal sock. Apparently, the socks rub against each other instead of against your foot.

Also, no cotton socks. Cotton holds moisture that evaporates from your feet (OK, so they’re sweaty & stinky, but it sounds much nicer when you call it moisture), which can cause irritation.

Last question, I found that my last pair was a little too small – my feet swelled while I was hiking. Is there some extra space?

    Enjoy!! Come hiking with us!!!

OK, so the ones on the left could be mine, I really don’t know. They are exactly the same pair of shoes. So either I have very big feet, or my husbands are very dainty. I am betting mine are very big.

We went hiking two days after, and the shoes worked great. I bought some work boot socks that have extra cushion on them so they would be extra comfy.

You, my friend, are just like me – a petite, little flower. Clearly, your husband is extremely dainty.

Yes, I have always felt very dainty (he,he) Like a little bity elephant!
