Soccer

Declan is playing soccer this fall and I have to say that Soccer is not my favorite sport – and apparently it is not his either.

My dislike of soccer is probably due to the fact that I do not like to run.  That is why I chose a sport like volleyball where you are confined to one side of the court and you are required to stay in your section of that one side of the court.  My current other problem with soccer is that it is played in a field that has no surrounding shade in the middle of the day and is very, very hot ( did I mention that it is still summer in Texas!!)

now listen here ball

All of these things would be ok if my son showed a remote interest in the purpose of the game, which is to kick the ball.  Unfortunately, we have reared a very polite little boy and he is perfectly willing to wait his turn for the ball, which means he never touches the thing.

so when does it start doing something

Saturday at the game, the coach tried to get him more involved, Declan got to play goalie.  I think he was pleased with the job at first, but he eventually got bored and started talking to the other little kids stationed in the area.  After about 20 minutes as goalie the coach asked if anyone needed a time out, and Declan politely raised his hand to sit out.  He also seems to have a dislike for running – and I can’t blame him.

tastes like chicken

I am hoping that his love of swimming will inspire an athletic venture in that direction, at least I have the hope of getting splashed if I get hot there.

I love the biting on the penny shot–that says it all!

I can’t blame Declan. I think running should be reserved for when big dogs are after me. Of course, now I have no practice with running and will become dog food should it actually happen.

lots of running just doesn’t cut it. at least for me.

One reason i wanted to go to saint pauls was because i wanted to do something that i couldn’t at eugean and that would be football.

I have one confession though i did like hitting people. oh coarse that doesn’t mean Declan is the same.
