While the kids are away…

While the kids were away Paul and I did some exploring around Texas, but as we were pretty busy I did not get a chance to post anything about it.

We spent our first weekend alone at Port Aransas, which is about 2 1/2 hours south east of SA, just north of Corpus Christi on Padre Island.  We ate at Black Beards, which was really fun.  It was a little dive, but they had good fish and a singer who sang really funny songs.  The only part I remember had something to do with riding a pony on a boat, but I can’t remember the whole thing.  That was Friday night.

Saturday we went to the beach and hung around for a while.  We went out to the really far into the water and played in the waves.  It was a little weird because we both decided not to wear our glasses, and we are both pretty much blind.  Paul said it was lucky I had on my really BRIGHT swimsuit or he wouldn’t be able to find me.

Saturday night we went out on the gambling cruise ship.  They have a buffet meal, and you can hang out on the deck during the 50 minute cruise out to international waters.  Once you are in international waters you can start gambling.  Paul and I spent the first probably two hours on the deck drinking margarita’s and listening to the band (we apparently missed the announcement that the gambling had begun)  But about 15 minutes underway there were already people sitting in front of the slot machines and at the card tables!

We both went in with $80.00 and we both left with $100.00 so we did pretty good.  I always like it when Paul plays slots with me.  Whenever I win, he takes half the money and won’t let me spend it.  That’s usually why I walk out with some money left!

gettin' ready to gamble

This was when we checked out the beaches to see where the camping was good.  It was really cloudy while we were there, but we still had fun playing in the waves.
