Tooth Ache

So, I got to work last Monday morning and all of a sudden my left jaw got really painful so I took a naprisen and continued on with my day.  Around noon it started hurting again, this time really bad so I took another naprisen, but that one didn’t really help.  I was drinking a rasberry tea and it seemed like as long as I had the cool drink in my mouth the pain went away.  Well teeth are not supposed to like the cold, so I figured I better call the dentist.

I got an appointment for Tuesday morning. I ended up finishing my rasberry tea and refilled my bottle with water from the water fountain about four times to keep the cool water on the tooth.  When I got home the water was still working and I took another naprisen before bedtime, but I ended up staying up watching movies all night because it is hard to drink water while you sleep and that was the only thing that seemed to help.

At the dentist Tuesday morning I was told I had an infection in the tooth and would have to have a root canal.  The scheduled that for today the 16th and sent me home with an antibiotic and Tylonal 3.  I spent the rest of the day in bed – still sipping water every 30 seconds to keep the pain away (apparently Tylonal 3 doesn’t do anything for me).  I was very tired and fell asleep a couple of times with a glass of water in my hand.  Needless to say I would wake up shortly after I fell asleep from the pain and the water running all over me.  (you would think after the first time that I would learn to put the glass down, but I’m apparently a slow learner!)

About 3:30pm I started calling the dentist back requesting stronger drugs.  I took a bit of persistance, I called then Paul called then I called back, we had both spooken to the receptionist at this point, but when I insisted that I would hold to talk to the dentist himself I was told I could come in right then and have him give me an injection of novicane (sp).  That was about 5:45pm, but I hoped my butt in the truck and went over.  I got two shots of novicane and since I did not flinch when he stuck the needle in I guess that was enough to convince him I was not drug seeking and I got a real drug.

So Tuesday night and Wednesday I was feeling much better.  Paul drove me to work Wednesday, as I was not allowed to drive on the meds.  He was nice enough to pick me up at 1:30 and take me back to the dentist to have a pulpatomy done.  That is where they take out the nerve.  It was almost a pleasant procedure.  They had me take two meds about around 1pm and gave me a set of headphones with some nice relaxing music so I had a very pleasant time in the chair.  The dentist had this piece of blue rubber almost like a balloon that fit on a wire frame (sort of like your embrodrie hoop for your sewing machine mom), there was a little slit in it that he fit around the tooth that he needed to work on.  That left the area to be worked on exposed, but my tongue couldn’t get in the way and all of the little pieces of tooth that come off when he drilled couldn’t fall down my throat.  It was pretty cool and really simpal (it was gadgety).

So now I am feeling much better, I had the root canal done on today and it looks like everything is fixed and fine.  Paul has to go in some time to have a tooth that has cracked down the middle removed soon, but his is not hurting him yet.

Doing much better. The root canal is all done and I only have occasional pain from the thing. It should be completely healed by the end of this week.
